Mathematics Logic Intelligence

Actually, every child is born with their competent and intelligence. Howard Gardner in his book Multiple Intelligences, state that there are eight human’s intelligence include: linguistic or verbal intelligence; mathematics logic; visual or space intelligence; musical or rhythms intelligence; kinesthetic intelligence; interpersonal intelligence; intrapersonal intelligence; and natural intelligence. The duty of parents and teachers are to maintain the characteristics that become intelligence base of child in order to defend until growth.
In this special occasion, we will discus about Mathematics Intelligence or Mathematics Logic.
Basically, every child is blessed with mathematics logic intelligence. Mathematics logic intelligence is mind intelligent of children to use the numbers effectively and reasoning. According to Gardner that mathematics logic intelligence as scientific reasoning capacity, mathematical in accordance with counting, logical think, inductive or deductive reasoning, and the sharpness abstract model as well as their relation. It can be meant as the competency to solve the problems that interrelated with mathematics needs. Child with this competency is pleased with formula and abstract model. Not only in mathematics number, but also in analytically and conceptually activities. According to Gardner, there is interrelated among mathematics logic intelligence and linguistic intelligence. In mathematics intelligence, the children are analyzed or explain logical reasons and construct the solution of problems. In linguistic intelligence is needed to explain in language form. The characteristics of the intelligent children in mathematics logic are the children interested to explore for instance examine every angle; observe the things that unique for them; interested to do the experiment. They often ask about all sorts of phenomena and prosecute the explanation. Besides, the children like to classified every all sorts of things based on color, size, type, etc. Also they interested to count.

What I can reflect about psychological aspects, if the student is confronted with the following questions.

1. Three years later, Yudi’s age will become six times Erik’s age. The sum of they ages now are 68 years old. Erik’s age now is … years old.

a. 10

b. 11

c. 12

d. 13

2. The sum of Ahmad’s value after had followed three times math test is 270. If his values, during followed this test, is three even numbers arrangement, then the lowest value that is reached …..

a. 84

b. 86

c. 88

d. 90

3. The set of solution from SPLDV 2p+3q = 8 and 3p + 2q = 17 is …

a. {(1, 2)}

b. {(2, 1)}

c. {(-7, 2)}

d. {(7, -2)}

4. The set of solution from SPLDV m-2n = 6 and 2mn = 9 is …

a. {(-1, 4)}

b. {(1, -4)}

c. {(-7, 8)}

d. {(7, -8)}

The spirit tendency that is visible when Junior High School pupils are facing with these questions includes:

a. There is a typical student that still calm, peaceful, quite, staid in facing these questions. The students aren’t nervous. They read, understand, and comprehend these questions globally, and then they do it. After that they examine carefully those answers.

The closure of these typical students includes:

If the students have laxity of comprehension, then they need too much time to solve these questions.

b. There is a typical students that is feel disoriented because they laxity of preparation.

Be based on Thorndike’s Law, one of behavioral psychology personage, Thorndike state that there are three main law of study includes:

*) Law of readiness

A certain individual will disposed get positive influence if they have enough preparation and readiness.

*) Law of exercises

A certain individual will disposed ready to solve some problems if they always do exercises.

*) Law of effect

A certain individual will be reinforced if they get a positive action, and they will be waked if they get negative action.

So, the students have much confident if they ready, do exercises, and get positive effect.

c. There is a typical student that is pessimist. They feel can’t do these questions before had done it. Sometimes they have “heart voice” that for example: “I can’t solve these questions” or “These questions too difficult for me”, etc.

As teachers’ candidate, we must have done something to these problems. We must have helped the students if they feel pessimist. We must have high spirit to give positive influence, then make they are convince that they can solve problem.

d. There is a typical student that is confident. They are sure solving these questions. They don’t give up trying and always trying. Sometimes they are facing difficult. However, they can prevent them difficult through ask someone who more clever than them and what is more they find out a references in the library, and internet.

My opinions are based on Thorndike’s Theory of Learning. This theory includes:

1. the most basic form of learning is TRIAL and ERROR learning,

2. Learning is incremental not insightful,

3. Learning is not mediated by ideas,

4. All mammals learn the same manner,

5. Law of readiness Interference with goal directed behavior causes frustration and causing someone to do something they do not want to do is also frustrating.

a. When someone is ready to perform some act, to do is satisfying.

b. When someone is ready to perform some act, not to do so is annoying.

c. When someone is not ready to perform some act and is forced to do so, it is annoying.

6. Law of Exercises we learn by doing. We forget by not doing, although to a small extent only.

a. Connections between a stimulus and a response are strengthened as they are used (law of use)

b. Connections between a stimulus and a response are weakened as they are not used (law of disuse)

7. Law of effect If the responses in a connection is followed by a satisfying state of affairs, the strength of the connection is considerably increased whereas if followed by an annoying state of affairs, then the strength of the connection is marginally decreased.

8. Multiple Responses a learner would keep trying multiple responses to solve a problem before it is actually solved.

9. Set or Attitude Set or attitude is what the learner already possesses, like prior learning experiences, present state of the learner, etc., while it begins learning a new task.

10. Prepotency of Elements Different responses to the same environment would be evoked by different perceptions of the environment which act as the stimulus to the responses. Different perceptions would be subject to the prepotency of different elements for different perceivers.

11. Response from analogy new problems is solved by using solution techniques employed to solve analogous problems.

12. Associative Shifting Let stimulus S is paired with response R. Now, if stimulus Q is presented simultaneously with stimulus S repeatedly, then stimulus Q is likely to get paired with response R.

13. Belongingness If there is a natural relationship between the need state of an organism and the effect caused by a response, learning is more effective than if the relationship is unnatural.
